One of the most striking urban aspects of Hong Kong is the extensive labyrinth of elevated pedestrian walkways that connect different parts of the city (they are known as elevated walkways or skywalks *). In many cases it is even possible to walk 1 kilometer or more without touching the ground, since these walkways connect parks, transport stations, office towers and shopping centers above the street.

Although it may seems to be simply a solution of pedestrian bridges taken to the extreme, the possibilities of connection they provide to pedestrians and their complexity in terms of layout, makes possible networks that weave entire districts and function as one more layer of public space for the city.
